Matthew Maxwell Scott, executive director of ACSO, said: "The Civil Justice Council has reopened responses to its consultation on costs for further four weeks, to 15 December 2022. Originally closing in October, the CJC is now looking to gather additional views on the implications of the judgement in Belsner v CAM Legal [2022] EWCA Civ 1387.
"As we stated in our recent blog, urgent action is needed to provide clarity to consumers and their representatives on the distinction between contentious and non-contentious business. It would be safe to assume that the necessary statutory revision is firmly in the CJC's sights as it introduces this additional response period. ACSO will be providing an additional response on behalf of our members and the consumers they serve."
