Darya Amin, who joined ACSO for three months on secondment from Fletchers Solicitors, reflects on her time with us:

‘Now that my time at the Association of Consumer Support Organisations (ACSO) has drawn to a close, I can confidently say that it has been an incredibly useful and enlightening experience.

When I first applied for the secondment programme, I was excited about the opportunity to explore the legal sector from a different angle. I wanted to examine the changes within the legal system and appreciate their impact on consumers. Having now completed my secondment, I can say that my time at ACSO has exceeded my expectations.

I have had the opportunity to carry out in-depth research and analysis, delving into consultation papers and enjoying meetings about the impact of various legal changes on consumers. I have also had the privilege of witnessing first-hand how ACSO engages with the processes of change, from dealing with government ministers to lobbying those who create the civil procedure rules. Through this experience, I have gained invaluable insight into the type of policy work and industry negotiation that happens behind the scenes.

Perhaps the most rewarding aspect of my time at ACSO has been the opportunity to draft responses on behalf of consumers. Throughout my secondment, I have been focused on ensuring that the changes within the legal sector are always considered from their perspective. This has been a guiding principle for me, and I am proud to have been able to contribute to this important work.

None of this would have been possible without the support and guidance of the ACSO team. From day one, they have been extremely welcoming and supportive, providing me with the resources and guidance I needed to succeed. I am truly grateful for this opportunity, and for the lasting connections I have made during my time here.’
