I was excited to request one of my training contract seats with the Association of Consumer Support Organisations (ACSO) through its secondment programme. As part of my final seat, I will be working in the compliance department at Lyons Davidson Solicitors, a leading UK law firm and a founding member of ACSO. I believe that combined they will give me a true insight into the legal profession like no other.
During my secondment, I hope to use my previous experience in legal expenses insurance, working with vulnerable people and personal injury to make a practical impact on the legal sector. There are several reasons as to why the secondment was appealing to me.
First, the unique nature of this seat will allow me to meet leading individuals within the sector and gain invaluable insight into the crucial work that goes on behind the scenes of policies we use daily. I have already had the opportunity to attend a meeting of ACSO’s Damages Claims Portal Group and to meet some of the members.
Second, I have a true interest in justice, reform and helping vulnerable people. Therefore, when the opportunity to work with ACSO’s Vulnerable Consumers Group was suggested, I jumped at the chance and look forward to seeing the positive outcomes for vulnerable people.
The team has welcomed me and scheduled 1-2-1 meetings which has allowed me to get a true insight into everyone’s working life. I will welcome feedback on my involvement throughout my time here, am very grateful for this opportunity and look forward to learning new skills which I can use to support ACSO’s members, who can get in touch with me by emailing kearna.manning@acso.org.uk
