ACSO reacts to Mazur appeal judgment

Matthew Maxwell-Scott, Executive Director of the Association of Consumer Support Organisations, said:

"The previous judgment on Mazur flew in the face of what was common and accepted practice for many years. Perhaps the saddest thing about it was the impact it had on highly experienced legal executives who came to question their own professional abilities, thankfully they can now be confident that the law is back on their side.

"What looked to most observers to be a mistake has now been corrected, and the lesson must be that if access to justice for consumers is to be maintained, and especially for those with more minor but nonetheless personally important cases, commercial reality has to be better understood and for there to be a focus on outcomes and not narrow inputs.

"Any good team will have people with different levels and type of expertise, be they in an operating theatre, a pit lane or handling litigation. They might not all have the same training, but with the right supervision they can all work effectively together towards the same positive ends."
